Introducing Yaari Foods: A Culinary Journey of Friendship

I’m Rowdy Farooqi, and my gastronomic adventure began in a family where every occasion called for a feast. When I moved to London in my early 20s, the search for the familiar flavours of my upbringing led me on a culinary quest. While the existing Indian food in the UK was undoubtedly delicious, it wasn’t quite the taste I craved.

Fuelled by my passion for history and a determination to preserve authentic Indian flavours, I embarked on a cooking journey. Starting with pre-packed spices and recipes, I delved deeper, uncovering the origin stories of lost recipes buried in history books.

However, recreating these culinary gems proved challenging due to the unavailability of historical ingredients in the UK and the evolving palates of the Indian diaspora, including my own.

Realising the need for a blend of tradition and modern tastes, I crafted historical recipes infused with contemporary flavours, all while staying true to the essence of authentic Indian cuisine. Initially, my creations were shared with close friends and loved ones, receiving overwhelming praise and encouragement.
Inspired by their response, I decided to share my culinary creations with the world, giving birth to Yaari Foods.

Why “Yaari”? In multiple Indian languages, Yaari translates to friendship. This name holds a profound significance for me, rooted in my family’s history during the India/Pakistan partition in 1947. Having connections with both countries, I witnessed the divisive impact of the partition on the people, particularly in the ancestral province of Punjab. Choosing “Yaari” reflects my belief that food has the power to bridge gaps and foster friendship.

At Yaari Foods, I offer a diverse array of Punjabi, North Indian, and Pakistani delicacies, drawing inspiration from both sides of the border. It’s my sincere hope that through these flavours, we can contribute to building stronger connections between communities and celebrate the spirit of friendship.

Join me on this culinary journey where every bite tells a tale of tradition, modernity, and the enduring bond of Yaari.
